We want to share an important update that may affect the arrival of new materials at Beloit Public Library. Baker & Taylor, one of the nation’s largest suppliers of books and library materials, has announced that it will be winding down operations and closing by the end of this year. Many public libraries, including ours, have relied on Baker & Taylor not only for purchasing, but also cataloging and processing new items.
Because of this industry-wide change, you may notice:
- Delays in new book arrivals or hold requests,
- Fewer of the newest releases available right away, and
- Occasional gaps as we transition to new vendors.
We are actively exploring new suppliers and adjusting our ordering processes to ensure that we can continue to offer a robust and diverse collection for our community, but please know that this transition will require patience. While public libraries across the country scramble, current suppliers may struggle to handle the intense demand created by this sudden closure.
