Beloit Public Library is launching a new evening series designed to bring inspiring artists, writers, and speakers to our community. “An Evening With” invites patrons to spend time with remarkable guests in an engaging, welcoming setting—right here at the library.
This spring, the series begins with three special events featuring a celebrated classical guitarist, a Wisconsin travel author, and the state’s Poet Laureate. Whether you love music, books, travel, or poetry, this new series offers a chance to experience something memorable at BPL.
Peter Fletcher: Classical Guitarist
Thursday, March 12 | 6:00–7:30 PM
The series opens with an evening of music from acclaimed classical guitarist Peter Fletcher. Known for his expressive style and technical skill, Fletcher will perform a program of virtuosic and lyrical favorites, including selections from his new CD along with works by Bach, Koshkin, Giuliani, Ponce, and Tansman. The evening will also include a special arrangement of the Shaker hymn Simple Gifts and conclude with two showpieces by Isaac Albéniz. This performance promises a rich and intimate musical experience for both longtime lovers of classical guitar and those simply looking to enjoy a beautiful night of live music.
Tamara Gaumond: Author of 100 Things to Do in Door County Before You Die
Friday, March 13 | 6:00–7:30 PM
The following evening, BPL welcomes author Tamara Gaumond for a lively conversation inspired by her book 100 Things to Do in Door County Before You Die. Gaumond will share travel tips, local insight, and favorite experiences from one of Wisconsin’s most beloved destinations. In addition to discussing the book, she will talk about her own path to publication and the inspiration behind pursuing creative work. This event will appeal not only to travel lovers and Door County fans, but also to aspiring writers and anyone curious about the creative process.
Brenda Cárdenas: Wisconsin Poet Laureate
Friday, April 17 | 6:00–7:00 PM
In April, the series continues with Wisconsin Poet Laureate Brenda Cárdenas. A Milwaukee-raised poet whose work has appeared in Poetry and American Poetry Review, Cárdenas brings an evening of readings, reflection, and a celebration of language and creativity. Her collection Trace received the 2023 Society of Midland Authors Award for Poetry, and her visit to BPL offers a special opportunity to hear from one of Wisconsin’s most distinguished literary voices. This event promises to be both thought-provoking and inspiring for readers, writers, and anyone who appreciates the power of words.
A New Way to Spend an Evening at the Library
With “An Evening With,” Beloit Public Library is creating new opportunities for the community to connect with accomplished guests through music, storytelling, and the arts. These events are a chance to discover something new, enjoy a meaningful cultural experience, and see the library in a different light.
We invite you to join us for one event or all three—and be part of the beginning of this exciting new series at BPL.
