We are happy to share that BPL will continue offering Hoopla in 2026, with a borrowing limit of six checkouts per month, per card. We’re glad to keep this service available, especially as many libraries nationwide have had to reduce or discontinue Hoopla due to cost.
The Daily Budget Model
BPL funds Hoopla through a daily checkout budget. This means, every day, the library as a whole has a dedicated amount of funds that goes toward Hoopla checkouts. Once that daily budget is reached, no additional checkouts are available for any patron until the budget resets at midnight. If funds are not fully used, they roll over and are added to the following day’s budget. For the best chance of getting the title you want, try checking out earlier in the day.
Eligibility Changes
Previously, Hoopla access was based on whether a card’s “home library” was set to Beloit Public Library. With our current update, Hoopla eligibility will be based on verified service-area status. Eligible patrons include those with verified addresses in Beloit, Beloit Township, and townships in our service area that do not have an official local public library: Newark, Avon, Plymouth, Rock, and Turtle. Individuals with paid out-of-state cards are also eligible.
These updates help ensure access for residents whose local tax support helps fund this resource. If you have questions about your card status or eligibility, please contact Beloit Public Library, and staff will be happy to help review your account.
