The annual event took place February 8 and included a morning session, emceed by BPL Director Nick Dimassis and featuring comments by Governor Tony Evers, Superintendent Jill Underly, and State Librarian Tessa Michaelson Schmidt.
WLA named Sen. Mary Felzkowski and Rep. Amy Loudenbeck, both members of the legislature’s Joint Committee on Finance, as Library Legislative Champions for their ongoing support for Wisconsin libraries, particularly throughout the 2021-2023 budget process. WLA also presented a Special Recognition Award to Sen. Felzkowski’s legislative aide Stamena Ivanov.
In our subsequent meetings with Sen. Janis Ringhand’s chief of staff, Rep. Don Vruwink, Sen. Stephen Nass, Rep. Mark Spreitzer, and Rep. Amy Loudenbeck, we took the opportunity to thank them for supporting public libraries during the last budget session with a substantial funding increase that supports public libraries and their essential role of providing services in the areas of technology, workforce development, and lifelong learning.
