Beloit Public Library (BPL) is hosting a discussion about race with the launch of its Lunch & Learn Series.

The first topic of this new series will focus on Ijoeoma Oluo’s bestselling book, So You Want to Talk About Race, which examines race in America. It will take place over the lunch hour, from noon-1:00 p.m. on July 16, 23, and 30.

Participants will discuss the book and its difficult subject matter in a three-part series that will address five chapters each week. Attendees can choose to participate in-person or online.

Since the tragic death of George Floyd, retailers have struggled to keep Oluo’s book on shelves with its overwhelming demand. Hoopla has made the audiobook available for download with no waits or holds through July 26 at https://www.hoopladigital.com/my/hoopla.

Hoopla is a digital media service offered by BPL that allows users to borrow movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks, comics, and TV shows to be enjoyed on a computer, tablet, or phone. It simply requires a device and a library card.

BPL has a limited number of hardcover books available as well; please email kclark@beloitlibrary.org to reserve one.

Registration for this program is required at: https://forms.gle/AW3FRkfeLkDzMHx26. For more information, call (608)364-2905.

BPL is currently open 9:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. To stay on top of the latest news and programs, be sure to follow the BPL Facebook page.
