Beloit Public Library announces the hiring of Becky Wilson as its first Discovery PLAYce Manager.
Wilson has a bachelor’s degree in early childhood special education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and has worked in early education for 21 years, serving children from birth through elementary school. She spent the last 11 years with the School District of Beloit, most recently as an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher at Todd Elementary School.
In addition to her experience as a special education teacher, Wilson has taught third grade and first grade dual language in public schools, as well as preschool in a Montessori setting. Her first day at Beloit Public Library was June 22.
“I am excited to connect with Beloit’s youngest library patrons and their families to support the development of social-emotional connections, early literacy, and other school readiness skills,” Wilson said. “I hope Discovery PLAYce provides children with an environment that promotes play and supports caregivers in fostering connection and development.”
Designed to support play-based learning, school readiness, and meaningful caregiver-child interaction, Discovery PLAYce will offer dynamic experiences that reflect best practices in early childhood development and family engagement. The completely free play center will be located inside Beloit Public Library and is slated to open in fall 2026.
“There is a great deal of excitement around Discovery PLAYce, and with that comes a great responsibility to make sure it truly serves children and families in the way we have envisioned over the past nearly five years,” said Library Director Nick Dimassis. “Becky’s background in early childhood education, special education, and family engagement makes her exactly the kind of leader we need to guide this work and help Discovery PLAYce reach its full potential.”
